Client Context

The client is a French boutique travel agency that has been designing custom, tailor-made itineraries across Southeast Asia since 2008. Specializing in Thailand, Vietnam, Bali, Cambodia, and Sri Lanka, the company is known for culturally immersive, responsible travel experiences crafted for French-speaking travelers. For nearly two decades, the agency has built its reputation on local insight, personal service, and a deep understanding of what discerning travelers seek when they go beyond standard itineraries. With a dedicated mobile app offering 24/7 support during trips, the brand bridges boutique expertise with digital accessibility. As the business looked toward new markets in Spain and the UK, the digital platform needed to match the brand’s ambition.

The Challenge

The agency’s previous website had become a constraint on the business. Long loading times, an absence of any content management system, poor SEO performance, and a site structure that made updates slow and navigation confusing all combined to create a platform that no longer reflected the quality of the experience the client offered its customers. The challenge was compounded by the nature of the audience. More than 70% of the brand's traffic came from mobile users, yet the existing site had not been designed for mobile performance. For a travel brand whose purchase decision often begins with an emotional response to visual storytelling, a slow, hard-to-navigate mobile experience meant losing potential customers at the first moment of contact. The company was also preparing to enter new markets. Expansion into Spain and the UK required a multilingual infrastructure capable of serving geo-specific content without a separate development dependency for every market update. The existing platform had no such capability. The starting conditions for the rebuild were difficult. Existing content data was fragmented and disorganized, requiring complete restructuring before it could be migrated to a modern CMS. There were no prior KPIs or performance-oriented design benchmarks to work from, which meant Gradion had to guide the client through defining content priorities and aligning them with business goals from first principles, all within a four-month delivery window.

The Approach

Gradion rebuilt the agency's digital presence from scratch, working under a fixed-price model with agile delivery practices. The engagement combined strategic and technical workstreams that ran concurrently. Complete Website Redesign: A new website was built with a clean, modern interface and intuitive user experience tailored specifically to the client's French-speaking audience. Every design decision reflected the brand’s identity, which is immersive, personal, and rooted in the richness of the destinations it serves. Modern Architecture: The frontend was built with React.js and Next.js, chosen for their performance characteristics and SEO optimization. The backend was implemented using Strapi CMS on Node.js, providing a flexible, API-based content management layer that the company’s marketing and content teams can operate without developer support. PostgreSQL powers content structure and metadata, while Cloudflare was integrated for performance and security. The dedicated customer portal was retained for booking and itinerary management. Scalable Infrastructure: The new infrastructure was designed to handle 10,000+ daily visitors, support multilingual content with geo-redirect features, and integrate with the agency's evolving operational systems. The architecture supports country-specific expansion without requiring bespoke engineering for each new market. Content Migration: Every piece of existing content was carefully migrated, restructured, and adapted to the new platform, preserving the brand's editorial voice while fitting the requirements of the new CMS architecture. Throughout the engagement, Gradion operated as both strategist and builder, helping the client define its content and performance priorities at the same time as delivering the platform.

The Results

Mobile-first platform delivered: Built specifically for the 70%+ of visitors arriving via mobile devices. Content team now autonomous: Marketing and content staff can update the site instantly without relying on technical support. Multilingual infrastructure live: Geo-redirect and localized content support expansion into Spain, UK, and beyond. Designed for 10,000+ daily visitors: Scalable architecture ready for traffic growth. Full content migration completed: Existing data was restructured and preserved without loss. 4-month delivery: The full platform was built from scratch within the fixed timeline. Enhanced user experience: Smooth navigation and richer storytelling that allows visitors to connect with the brand before they book. The client's team can now focus on what they do best, which is designing remarkable travel experiences.
